Tropical Update 6/13/08

The conditions in the tropics remains serene, in fact, more quiet than the previous day. Despite diurnal maximum last night, the tropical wave near the Lesser Antilles lost a lot of its convection. Indeed there is no hope for this system to develop into a tropical cyclone due to the fact that upper level winds are not conductive for any significant development. Meanwhile, the area of disturbed weather in the Gulf Of Mexico (GOM) should be monitored closely because the computer models forecast that these areas will favorable for further development.

The GFS model continues to develope a vigorous tropical wave next week about 40 degrees west. Nevertheless, it is too low in latitude for the coriolis force to affect it*.

The next 10 days should be remain quiet in the tropics. If any development occurs, it will likely be in the southwestern caribbean or Gulf Of Mexico (GOM).

* The coriolis force is not an actual "force". The coriolis effect allow the winds to not move in a straight line, rather, curve. This gives a tropical cyclone its rotation. However, near the equator lines always move in straight line, and therefore tropical cyclones cannot form there,
